Date: 2/9/2020 Location: Parlin, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain & Vodka Website: https://www.orderprimospizzeria.com/ I stopped in for some lunch between training sessions at the neighboring ATA Parlin. The staff was friendly and service was pretty quick despite the surge of customers. The plain pizza features good cheese and sauce with a crispy base. Though there are some spots that are softer and don't hold up well / fold when trying to eat. The vodka pizza was pretty good! The sauce was tasty and the cheese slices, though they did slide a bit, tasted good. Primo's has decent pizza overall and I would happily eat here again.

Date: 4/2/2020 Location: Elizabeth, NJ Pizza experienced: Sicilian & 1964 Website: https://santillopizza.com Santillo's is a popular pilgrimage for pizza lovers and for good reason. For decades, Santillo's has consistently put out amazing pizza. Their menu includes notable pizza styles from the eras and I hope to one day enjoy each of the varieties. Their most popular pizza is the 1964 or the Sicilian. Both are fantastic picks. First, you must know that Santillo's bakes their pizzas well. The cheese gets that beautiful golden brown scoring and the crust is crispy and crunchy. That being said, they have a rich, flavorful sauce that you can't get enough of. I really enjoyed the 1964 for the perfectly crispy crust and base, the delicious aforementioned sauce, and the amazing spices and herbs that packed a flavorful punch in every bite. I'm especially grateful for the many friends and experts that have recommended Santillo's to me over the years. Shoutout to Ms. V for treating me to my first Santillo's experience. That Sicilian was everything I could have hoped for. Overall, Santillo's is a piece of pizza history that needs to be experienced by any pizza-aficionado.
Date: 4/1/2020 Location: Scotch Plains, NJ Pizza ordered: Regina & Marinara Website: https://www.massarsp.com/ I was blown away by how good this pizza is. As a pizza aficionado, I've been interested in finding a good spot for Roman pizza and THIS IS IT!! I ordered half Regina (like Margherita) and half marinara. The marinara has an airy, fluffy base with a perfectly crisp bottom. The sauce is tremendous and the fresh garlic adds great flavor. This is proof that pizza doesn't need cheese to be exceptional. The Regina is a flavor goldmine from the milky, gooey mozzarella to the deliciously fresh tomatoes. I enjoyed every bite.
Date: 1/13/2020 Location: Somerset, NJ Slices ordered: Plain & square Website: https://www.luigispizzasomerset.com/ I decided to drop in after driving by a few times for work. The slices I went with were the plain and the square. The plain is greasy with a soft base that is slightly gummy which usually indicates undercooking. The sauce is pretty good though. The square also has a tasty sauce with a nice garlicky flavor, though there is some major cheese slide when you take a bit. Pizza overall is pretty meh, but maybe I came at a bad time.
Date: 1/16/2020 Location: Middlesex, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain and Square Website: http://www.ferrarospizzeriapub.com/ Ferraro's Pizzeria & Pub offers a great quality bar pie. I stopped in during a lunch break, so I didn't get to enjoy the pub part of this establishment, but I hope to be able to in the future. Luckily, I did get to experience the pizza. My choices were the square (Brooklyn?) and the plain slice.
The plain slice is solid overall. It features a light, thin base with a crackery-crisp crust that is very typical of the bar-pie style of pizza. The cheese and sauce tasted great too! The square had the same great sauce and cheese with a slightly softer base. The crust was the same excellent cracker-crisp as the plain. Ferraro's Pizzeria & Pub has a friendly staff, a cool, cozy interior, and most important: good pizza. Date: 4/14/2020 Location: Somerville, NJ Slices ordered: Plain and Margherita Website: www.cafe-picasso.com/calabriamia/ Calabria Mia is located in downtown Somerville along the busy West Main Street. They have a warm, romantically lit dining area in addition to a comfortable outdoor dining area if you'd like some fresh air.
I tried a slice of plain and a margherita slice. The plain had a crisp base, lots of cheese, and a plain, unremarkable sauce. The margherita was a bit better in the sauce department and featured fresh, juicy, flavorful tomatoes. The crust was fluffy and the base was pleasantly crisp. Overall, this is a decent spot. Date: 4/1/2020 Location: Scotch Plains, NJ Slices ordered: Margherita & Brooklyn Website: www.alfonsospizzeriasp.com/ Alfonso's Pizzeria is located along the busy Park Avenue. There is street parking and a municipal lot very close by. The inside of the restaurant is clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly and inviting. I decided to go with a Margherita and a Brooklyn square. The square featured good cheese with a delicious sauce and a nice, fluffy base. The Margarita had a slightly thicker base that is crisp on the bottom, but fluffy throughout. It also had a great sauce and good quality mozzarella cheese. The crust was crispy-crunchy. Good pizza, I was very satisfied.
