Date: 6/11/2020 Location: Manalapan, NJ Slices ordered: Brooklyn Square, vodka, & Nonna Website: www.brooklynsquarenj.com/ Disclaimer: These photos are not my own. They were shared on the Brooklyn Square instagram page. I lost the photos from my visit in a data corruption incident. Brooklyn Square has long been on my list of places to try. Pete Genovese ranked it as #1 in New Jersey in 2019 and my good friend and fellow pizza enthusiast Dom has been pushing for me to visit for the longest time. It was by luck that I happened to be near the Manalapan location for work, so counted my lucky stars and stopped in for lunch. I wanted to try everything they had on display, it all looked amazing. I opted for the Brooklyn Square, the vodka sauce, and the Nonna. The Brooklyn Square slice had a soft, thick base with delicious cheese and an incredibly flavorful sauce that was packed full of spices. The vodka slice had the perfect, creamy, cheesy vodka sauce that every pizzeria strives for. It also featured a thin, crispy base that provides a good structure for the slice. The Nonna had a phenomenal, thick, juicy, sweet sauce and was complimented with great cheese and the same crispy base as the vodka slice. I know where I'm stopping if I'm ever back in the area. I'm definitely going to make the pilgrimage to the Jackson location when I get the chance.

Date: 4/9/2020 Location: Bedminster, NJ Pizza ordered: plain & peppers and onions Website: lapizzerianj.com/ Stopped into La Pizzeria during the COVID-19 pandemic right before a serious rainstorm. They hooked me up with a fresh half-plain, half peppers & onions pie. The staff was super polite and friendly. I wasn't able to dine in per the restrictions, so I took the pie to my car to enjoy while the sky opened up with thunder and fury. I must say, the plain is pretty good. The sauce is great and, though it's on the greasy side and the base is a bit softer than I prefer, the cheese is the perfect amount and the crust is plenty fluffy and delicious. The peppers and onions slices were good too, though I feel like they could have gone a little easier on the cheese on that part. Overall: good pizza.

Pizzeria Manninos is a lovely spot located along the South Broadway, the main street traveling directly through Pittman. The decor inside the restaurant is lovely and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I decided to go with a classic Margherita pizza.
The pizza is Heaven on Earth. There's a beautiful char on the base and crust. The super fresh cheese is perfectly melted across the rich, flavorful tomato sauce. This is certainly among the best wood-fired brick oven pizzas I've enjoyed. I don't make it to South Jersey often, but next time I do, I am stopping here again to experience the bliss of their perfect pizza. Date: 6/17/2020 Location: Somerville, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain and Margherita Website: www.primapizzakitchen.com/ Note: Photos from my visit to Prima were lost due to a data corruption issue. The photo pictured was posted by the owner to the google maps restaurant page. This photo does not belong to me. Prima Pizza Kitchen is a delightful neighborhood pizzeria located in Somerville NJ. The staff was very friendly and inviting and service was quick. I went with a plain slice and a Margherita slice. The plain had a lovely, thin, crust. The cheese was pleasantly toasted and, though it was on the greasy side, really tasted great. The sauce was also notably good. This is a great standard slice.
The Margherita slice featured a really great sauce and fresh garlic which packed the slice full of flavor. It also had the same thin-crust as the plain with a nice, smokey flavored crust. I enjoyed Prima and believe it's a good example of a decent neighborhood pizzeria. |
