Date: 6/1/2021 Location: Augusta, ME Pizza ordered: Plain Website: https://www.hannaford.com/locations/turnpike-mall-hannaford-21055 This particular Hannaford has a large parking area with ample spaces. The store is well stocked and the staff is friendly and helpful if you need assistance. That being said, their pizza is utterly terrible. I know, I know, no one actually goes to a grocery store to get pizza. Well, I was curious and just had to try it. The pizza I had tasted old and crusty. The base and crust were thin and crispy, but the crust was totally flavorless. The sauce was decent but the cheese was what you would expect from a slice being kept warm for three days on end. This is even worse than I expected.

Let me preface this by saying, I didn't expect gas station pizza to be any good to begin with. I'm also used to eating pizza at a pizzeria, freshly reheated. That being said, Tobey's pizza is slightly better than I expected. The sauce is cheap, the cheese is cheap, but they managed to get a nice browning on the cheese. There's a decent spice blend on top and a good salty, garlicky taste to it. The base is pleasantly fluffy. No, overall, the pizza isn't great. It's also a gas station and a grocery store. This was to be expected.
Date: 5/30/2021 Location: Belfast, ME Pizza ordered: Large plain pie Website: www.clover.com/online-ordering/alexias-pizza-belfast I always hear stories of how awful pizza outside of the tri-state area is. I personally know better, having been to places all over the country. Alexia's is a perfect counterexample to this small-minded thinking. While the pizza is not as thin and crispy as the standard NY/NJ pie, the slightly thicker base and crust do this pizza good service. Sometimes you really want something fluffy and delicious like the base and crust from Alexia's. I really enjoyed the tangy, mild sauce. The slightly greasy, buttery cheese featured excellent browning and great flavor. I'm very happy with the pizza from Alexia's. I should also mention the fast service and friendliness of the staff. I hope to enjoy pizza from Alexia's again!
Date: 6/27/2021 Location: New Brunswick, NJ Pizza ordered: Margherita Website: ordersveganizedfoods.square.site/ Veganized has moved locations (a few hundred feet down the street) and added to their wonderful menu. I think this deserves an update. My original comments still stand. The restaurant is very unique. The new upstairs dining area is reminiscent of a historic hotel. There's also the option to eat outside on the balcony. Strange, obscure art still adorns the walls. The staff continues to be polite, friendly, and provides quick service. The presentation is still on-point. All of the food I've tried thus far has been nothing short of amazing. I continue to recommend the Mac and Cheese, the falafel wrap, the Caesar salad, and the triple cooked fries. A new addition to their menu and something that will likely become my usual order is their delicious Margherita pizza. The pizza has a perfect, woody char on the base and crust that impart a subtle smoky flavor. The sauce is beyond incredible. The cheese, which is created from cashews, is fluffy, creamy, and delicious. The pesto also provides additional flavors to the pie. This is perhaps the best vegan pizza I've ever experienced.
After you've enjoyed your main course, you simply must order one of their desserts. My favorite is the chocolate peanut butter torte, but they're all great picks. Whether you're following a plant-based/vegan diet or you're just looking for some excellent food: Veganized is a must-try. Date: 6/20/2021 Location: Annadale, NJ Pizza ordered: Miller's Original Thin Crust Pie Website: https://www.cryans.com/ Cryan's Tavern is a small Irish Pub / biker bar that's immediately off Route 78 as you pass through Annandale. Parking is in the back, so don't miss it as you are driving by! Fortunately, there are plenty of spaces to park, so even on the busiest days, you should be alright.
I sat at the bar and service was a little slow initially, but got better as more people started arriving. I started with a pretzel appetizer. This was a great choice. The pretzels were perfectly fluffy. The beer cheese dip was excellent, as was the stout mustard dip. For pizza, I went with the large Miller's original thin crust. This was your classic bar pie, albeit a bit burnt on the crust. The sauce was great, the cheese was greasy, and the pizza was nice and light. The base was a bit soft, which didn't matter since I only had a plain pie, but I'm not sure it would have supported too many toppings. Overall, I had a great experience and enjoyed the food. |
