 Wouldn't you know? Two of my favorite foods combined in one restaurant. Tacos Pizza is a hole-in-the-wall spot in downtown Bound Brook. Streetside parking is required, though they have plenty of room for sitting down and eating in. This time I tried the pizza -next time will be the tacos. The pizza is decent. It has a crisp base and a crunchy, toasted crust. The sauce and cheese are alright, though the slice was slightly gummy/doughy. It certainly wasn't bad though.

It's a great place to stop in if you're walking around doing some shopping. Inside you'll find the classic, wooden booths that your old-school neighborhood pizzeria was known for. The staff is friendly and the service is quick! As for their pizza: it's good. The plain is decent with a slightly softer crust, good sauce, and good cheese. The pasta slice kicked but. The thin, crispy base was sturdy enough to support a thick layer of delicious vodka-sauced pasta. The sauce was perfectly cheesy and creamy. I also liked the fluffy, bready crust.

Al Fresco's is located in a mall that is situated next to the busy Route 202 which runs straight through Flemington. There's a large parking area and plenty of indoor seating, so large parties should feel comfortable dining here. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
I decided to go with the Margherita pie and the vodka sauce pie. The Margherita pie is simply AMAZING. The sauce is sweet and delicious. It's clear the plum tomatoes Al Fresco's uses are high quality. The fresh mozzarella tastes great, but beware of cheese slide! The fresh basil adds the perfect finishing touch. The vodka pie features a creamy, buttery vodka sauce that tastes fantastic. Just like the Margherita pie, the base and crust are both thin and crispy. Overall, I'm very impressed with Al Fresco's and will happily eat here again.  I stopped into Ray's for a quick slice on the way back from the beach. The parking lot around back has plenty of space for cars. The dining room inside is clean and the tile floor is tastefully done. There are a few paintings that adorn the wall, bringing a classic, Italian atmosphere. They also have an ATM machine and fresh deli meats available.
Their pizza is the classic Jersey shore style: a thin, crisp base with greasy, salty cheese and an excellent, flavorful tomato sauce. The crust on the slice was okay. It was slightly dry, but pleasantly crispy. The parking situation can be a bit dicey at peak hours. There aren't very many spots.
Inside is a bit cramped, but the staff is friendly and service is quick. I decided to go with a plain slice and a margherita slice. The slices were average. The sauce and cheese taste great, but the base of the slices was fairly soft and didn't have great structure. The cheese slid around a lot too when taking a bite. Overall, the pizza wasn't bad. |
