Date: 7/31/2019 Location: Westfield, NJ Pizza ordered: plain pie Website: www.thebrickovenwestfield.com/ The Brick Oven is a small, intimate restaurant with a warm and cozy interior. The lighting sets the mood and the restaurant has an interesting multi-level dining area with one section being raised up. I really admire the unique layout.
Complimentary bread came with the meal. It's perfectly fluffy and light so it won't fill you up too quickly before the main course. The pizza is phenomenal. The crust is perfectly thin. The sauce is light and sweet with good ratios to the fresh, greasy cheese. I really enjoyed the pizza. The staff was also quite friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend enjoying a pleasant dinner at this spot.

Date: 7/31/2019 Location: Westfield, NJ Pizza ordered: Original wood fired tomato pie Phone: (908) 654-0400 Fiamma is a small, intimate pizzeria hidden in the bustling streets of Westfield, NJ. The atmosphere is warm, busy, a bit loud, but still romantic. Their wood-fired oven was made in Italy and it's one of the authentic types that you expect a good pizza to come from. I decided to go with the original wood-fired tomato pie and I wasn't disappointed. There's a great char on the crust and a delicious, rich tomato sauce. The fresh, milky cheese tops this excellently crafted pie. The pie has a pleasant, fluffy interior but a crisp, crunchy crust. The fresh basil slices on top of the pie seal the deal and bring the flavors home. It was a great pizza and I definitely recommend this spot.
Date: 6/27/2019 Location: Bridgewater, NJ Pizza ordered: plain and peppers+onions Phone: (732) 469-0625 Russo's doesn't look like much from the outside with its no-frills exterior. Inside you get a nice, welcoming, homelike atmosphere. The table cloths are unique and what you might find at a small, family restaurant. The plain slice has a crispy base, greasy cheese, and a crunchy crust. The peppers and onions slice, a classic that seems to be missing from many pizzerias I've visited recently, has good flavor and tasty toppings. These slices are the typical, greasy, Jersey slice. Good stuff.
Date: 6/27/2019 Location: Bridgewater, NJ Pizza ordered: plain and vodka grandma Website: www.carlospizzaandpasta.com/ Inside Carlo's Pizza, you get the look of a quintessential neighborhood pizzeria. There are classic wooden booths with benches, plenty of baseball memorabilia and a super friendly waitress. I ordered a slice of plain and a grandma vodka slice. The plain had great flavors of salt, a slight tinge of garlic, and a rich red sauce. The base was perfectly crispy and the crust was yummy and fluffy. The grandma vodka slice has a nice creamy, cheesy sauce. It tastes like a cheese explosion. The pizza Carlo's offers is great and if you are thinking about trying it out, I highly recommend it.
Date: 6/26/2019 Location: Kendall Park, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain and Sicilian Website: http://www.vinnyskppizza.com/ Vinny's Pizza is a neighborhood joint that offers decent pizza with both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is also BYOB, so feel free to bring some drinks to enjoy with your food. I ordered a plain slice and a Sicilian. The plain had a crispy base with a sauce that tastes wonderful. The slice also features a pleasant, fluffy crust. The Sicilian could benefit from more sauce, but overall has a nice, crunchy crisp to the base and crust, with a fluffy interior.
Date: 5/26/2019 Location: Kendall Park, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain, Brooklyn, and Penne Vodka Phone Number: (732) 821-9711 Unfortunately, I seem to have misplaced the photos from this visit. You'll have to use your imagination.
Dusal's is located along the busy local route 27. They have a fairly large parking lot, so parking shouldn't be an issue. The staff is friendly and they have ample indoor seating in what I would describe as a cozy, family dining atmosphere. Our party ordered a Brooklyn pie, a plain pie, and a penne vodka pie. The Brooklyn features a spicy and savory sauce that is VERY good. The fresh cheese and fresh basil, together with the great sauce, create a very good overall slice. There is some cheese slide that occurs though, so be wary. The plain has a buttery, salty cheese that tastes great with the accompanying sweetness of the sauce. The crust is pleasantly fluffy. The penne vodka slice is filling and overflowing with cheesy goodness. I think it could benefit from more sauce, but overall it's a solid pick. This spot puts out some good pizza and I definitely recommend it. Date: 1/13/2019 Location: New Haven, CT Pizza ordered: Plain Italian Tomato Pie Website: sallysapizza.com/ Sally's Apizza, one of the big three in New Haven, is the best of the three in my opinion. Sure, the restaurant is tight, with intimate wooden booths that sport less than comfortable, worn-out cushions. It is cramped and service can be slow because of the massive demand for their pizza. All that aside, Sally's has a superb tomato pie. The sauce is TO DIE FOR. The pizza has excellent cheese with crust that's charred to hell. When everything comes together, the pizza is bursting with flavor and stands as one of the best I've eaten.
Date: 2/22/2019 Location: Madison, NJ Slices ordered: Plain, square, penne vodka Website: www.nickysfirehouse.com/ Nicky's Firehouse is so unique. They've got a really cool firehouse theme with a great atmosphere and warm, welcoming lighting. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Their pizza also rocks!
The plain slice was very thin and light with good sauce and cheese. The square is absolutely tremendous with fantastic sauce, quality cheese, and a nice crispy base and crust. The fresh basil strips bring the slice home and overall, this slice is the real winner! The penne vodka has great cheese stretch. The vodka sauce is creamy and delicious. The base of this slice is crispy, yet the slice still folds well. The crust has a nice fluffiness with the only flaw of this slice being the slightly overdone bottom. Overall, this pizzeria is outstanding and I highly recommend it. Date: 10/02/2019 Location: Monroe, NJ Slices ordered: Plain, Sicilian, Margherita Square Website: www.tomatopiesmenu.com/ Tomato Pies is a friendly, little pizzeria located in a strip mall. There is ample parking and plenty of seating both inside and out (though it can certainly be busy around the lunch rush and finding a seat can be a challenge). The staff was very friendly and there was a variety of different slices available at the front counter. I went with a plain, a Margherita square and a Sicilian.
The plain slice could benefit from a crispier bottom, but the sauce is FANTASTIC. The plain slice also has a light, fluffy crust. The Margherita slice has some cheese slide going on, though the base is much crispier and the slice still has the delicious sauce, so it's good overall. The Sicilian could have been a bit crispier, but it's decent. Good sauce, fluffy interior. Overall Tomato Pies is a decent spot and I would give it the seal of approval. |
