Date: 08/07/2021 Location: Livingston, NJ Pizza ordered: upside-down, vodka sauce, and margherita Website: calabrianj.com/ For a while, Calabria was getting all the love from the New Jersey pizza community. I figured it was worth checking out to see if the hype was real. I'm proud to report that the pizza is excellent - the pizza community takes another win. I tried three different slices: the upside-down, the vodka slice, and the margherita. The upside-down featured a crispy thin base with a thin, crunchy, charred crust. The sauce was excellent, as was the cheese. The vodka slice had a thicker cheese layer with a lovely, creamy, cheese vodka sauce. It also had the same thin, crispy base that I appreciated about the upside-down slice. The margherita also featured a thin, crisp base with a decent sauce and tasty mozzarella cheese. There were so many more slices I wanted to try, but that will have to wait until my inevitable return (I most certainly will be going back).

I recently had the chance to try Antonio's for the first time, and overall it was a fairly average experience. The cheese was okay - not particularly impressive, but not terrible either. The sauce was decent, with a nice balance of sweetness and acidity. The slice I had was topped with a generous amount of herbs, which added some nice flavor and freshness. However, I did find the crust to be a bit dry, which took away from the overall enjoyment of the pie. On the plus side, the dining area at Antonio's was nice and comfortable, with plenty of seating and a welcoming atmosphere. Overall, I would say that Antonio's is a solid choice for a quick slice or pie, but it's not necessarily a destination spot for pizza lovers.
Date: 05/11/2021 Location: Florham Park, NJ Pizza ordered: Nonna's Special Website: nonnaspizzaflorhampark.com/ I finally got the opportunity to try Nonna's - a spot that's been on my "Pizza-You-Have-To-Try" list for ages. Like most recommendations that come from the legendary Pete Genovese, this place was an absolute hit. I went with the recommended Nonna's Special and I was blown away by the incredible flavor. The sauce was sweet and tangy. The cheese was toasted perfectly with a balanced saltiness. The thin base and crust featured beautiful charring. It was an amazing pie - seriously, I wish I always had access to pizza this good.
Date: 03/07/2021 Location: Morristown, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain slice Website: www.godfatherpizzerianj.com/ I stopped in at the perfect time - the pizza was coming right out of the oven. The plain slice I had featured excellent sauce and a fluffy, bready crust. The cheese was a bit on the greasy side, but the slightly sweet sauce balanced things out. The slice also featured a crisp base with a good structure. I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the friendly staff, the fast service, and the lovely seating area inside. It looks like a great spot to sit down and have a meal with family or friends. Overall, I enjoyed the slice and would happily return.
Date: 01/16/2021 Location: Porstmouth, NH (now closed - new location Ogunquit, ME) Pizza ordered: Mount Katadhin Mushroom & Classic Plain Website: cornerstoneogunquit.com/ Driving back to Maine from New Jersey, I found myself in need of some fuel to get me the rest of the way. I am so thankful I decided to visit Cornerstone Artisanal Pizza. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all tremendous. (Unfortunately, at the time I'm getting around posting this, their Porstmouth, NH location has closed. Fear not: they have a new spot in Ogunquit, ME.)
Anyway, back to the pizza. I went with the classic cheese pizza and also the Katadhin Mushroom pizza. The cheese pie featured a light, fluffy crust. The base was thin, and the cheese was excellent, but it was a bit light on sauce. The fresh basil made up for this and packed a good flavor to the pie. The real winner was the Katadhin Mushroom pizza. It was REALLY good. The mushrooms added a nice earthy flavor that balanced the salt, shavings of parmesan cheese, and the spice of the fresh arugula. I am absolutely going to visit the Ogunquit location in the near future because I had such a great experience at their Portsmouth location. I stopped into Antimo's on the way back from a job site and overall I was a bit mixed about my experience. On one hand, the white pizza was absolutely delicious - the combination of creamy sauce, fluffy cheese, and fresh herbs was truly heavenly. However, I was a bit disappointed with the plain pie. The base was unfortunately quite soft and lacked structure, and the overall flavor of the pizza was a bit underwhelming. My coworker thought both the pepperoni and sausage slices were superb. Maybe I got unlucky with the plain slice, but I would still recommend Antimo's. The rest of our slices were great! I should also mention they have a clean, beautiful indoor dining area and a nice seating area outside the restaurant.
Date: 4/20/2022 and 12/27/2022 Location: Augusta, ME Pizza Ordered: Build your own - red sauce, mozzarella, and IPA Caramelized Onions (Also tried a pizza with vegan cheese and red peppers) Website: www.cushnocbrewing.com/ Cushnoc serves up a decent pizza. They have a variety of specials or you can opt to build your own. I decided to build my own with red sauce, mozzarella cheese, and the IPA caramelized onions. I have to say, these carmelized onions are perfectly sweet and delicious. They make a top-notch topping. The pizza itself features a soft, thin, light, airy base and a chewy, charred, also airy crust. The red sauce is flavorful and really elevates the pizza.
I also really appreciate that they offer vegan cheese as an option. My wife ordered a pie with vegan cheese and red onions and the cheese wasn't overly gooey (a common weakness for vegan cheeses). It was a good pie and it reheated well the next day too! You should know that the building tends to run a bit cold and sometimes, depending on where you sit, you'll get an air current. I also wish they served flights, but they do at least offer small samples you can try before ordering. Overall, I've had nothing but good experiences at Chushnoc and can definitely recommend it to anyone looking for pizza and beer in the Augusta area. Date: 02/24/2021 Location: Flemington, NJ Pizza ordered: plain and penne vodka Website: www.lennyspizzaflemington.com/ I stopped into Lenny's for a quick bite before heading back to the office. I decided to go with a slice of plain and a penne vodka slice. The plain slice had a bit of flop and a slightly gummy interior. The cheese and sauce were decent and the crust was pleasantly crispy. The penne vodka slice had a much better structure. It featured a creamy, cheesy sauce with a toasty, smoky crust. The pasta was excellent and filling. All in all, Lenny's puts out a decent pizza.
Date: 6/25/2022 Location: Newburgh, ME Pizza ordered: Plain I finally arrived to Dysarts at a time when they put out a fresh pizza, and overall I was fairly satisfied with my experience. The pizza itself was decent - the crust was soft and fluffy, and the cheese and sauce were tasty. The base of the pizza was reminiscent of cafeteria pizza and left a bit to be desired. Overall, I didn't hate it.
Date: 09/12/2021 Location: Kennebunk Service Plaza (Southbound) Sbarro Pizza Ordered: Plain I stopped into Sbarro for a quick slice of pizza and got about what I was expecting. While the slice was certainly large and filling, it was also quite greasy and oily. The crust wasn't particularly crispy or flavorful, and the cheese and sauce seemed a bit bland and underseasoned. Overall, it's not the best slice I've had, but in a pinch, it will do.
