Date: 8/7/2021 Location: Caldwell, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain slice & square slice Website: getangelonis.com/ I'm glad I made the trip out to Angeloni's Restaurant & Pizzeria in Caldwell, NJ. This area is filled with good pizza and Angeloni's fits that bill! Parking is mostly on the street and the inside of the restaurant at the time I visited was buzzing with activity. I grabbed pizza to go so I could miss the weekend crowd.
The pizza itself is perfectly thin and has an excellent, crispy base. The sauce is tasty and of very good quality. The standard pie features a thin layer of this delicious sauce topped with a toasty, greasy cheese that you can't get enough of. The square pizza has many of the same features but comes with a fluffier base/crust and more awesome sauce. I'm a fan of Angeloni's and would recommend it to anyone looking for a thin, crispy pizza!

Date: 08/07/2021 Location: Verona, NJ Pizza ordered: Brooklyn, Grandma, and Drunken Grandma Website: www.thepizzaterminalrestaurant.com/ Pizza Terminal has been getting some love in the New Jersey Pizza community, so I decided to give it a chance. I certainly wasn't disappointed. Everything at the counter looked so delicious, but I settled on three slices: the Brooklyn, the Grandma, and a Drunken Grandma.
The Brooklyn slice featured some deliciously sweet caramelized onions and a delicious sauce. The slice also had a crisp base and a fluffy interior. The Grandma had a slightly thinner base but was also incredibly delicious. The interior was super fluffy, but the crisp base provided a good structure. The soft, fluffy, bready crust really blew me away. The Drunken Grandma featured a cheesy, creamy sauce on the same wonderful crisp base. All of the slices were fluffy, yet light and airy. If I wasn't saving room for a few other pizza stops on my pizza crawl, I would have ordered a few more slices! Date: 08/07/2021 Location: Livingston, NJ Pizza ordered: upside-down, vodka sauce, and margherita Website: calabrianj.com/ For a while, Calabria was getting all the love from the New Jersey pizza community. I figured it was worth checking out to see if the hype was real. I'm proud to report that the pizza is excellent - the pizza community takes another win. I tried three different slices: the upside-down, the vodka slice, and the margherita. The upside-down featured a crispy thin base with a thin, crunchy, charred crust. The sauce was excellent, as was the cheese. The vodka slice had a thicker cheese layer with a lovely, creamy, cheese vodka sauce. It also had the same thin, crispy base that I appreciated about the upside-down slice. The margherita also featured a thin, crisp base with a decent sauce and tasty mozzarella cheese. There were so many more slices I wanted to try, but that will have to wait until my inevitable return (I most certainly will be going back).
Tony D's came highly recommended from the legendary pizza aficionado Pete Geneovese of NJ.com. His recommendations have never steered me wrong and Tony D's is another example of that. Tony D's is a hidden gem hole in the wall. The popular pick is the drunken grandma pie and I can see why. It's greasy, cheesy, and delicious. The crunchy, crisp crust has a great structure and the juicy tomatoes combine with the delicious vodka sauce to create an explosion of flavor. It's no wonder how this spot consistently makes the NJ top-ten pizzerias.
Date: 7/28/2020 Location: Caldwell, NJ Pizza ordered: penne vodka & plain Website: www.fortepizzeria.com/ I really enjoyed the pizza from Forte. The two slices I tried were the penne vodka and the plain. The penne vodka slice had a crispy base with a vodka sauce that was on the mild side. The slice had excellent cheese and a fluffy, bready crust. The plain slice featured a charred crust with a crispy, thin base. The sauce had excellent flavor and the greasy cheese was also delicious. I would happily stop in again!
