Date: 11/22/2019 Location: Jersey City, NJ Pizza ordered: Half plain half margherita Website: https://www.johnspizzerianyc.com/jersey-city John's Pizzeria is located in a lovely neighborhood in downtown Jersey City. Parking can be a bit tough, but I found a spot on the street not too far away. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. I decided to start with a cocktail, so I opted for the classic Sidecar. It was excellently prepared.
For pizza, I had a split Margherita/plain pie. Both the plain and Margherita slices had a crisp bottom with a fluffy crust and good, exterior char. The sauce is TREMENDOUS!! Extremely tasty. The plain had a fresh milky cheese while the Margherita had a slightly saltier cheese that balanced really well with the fresh basil. Both sides were packed with flavor, so I'm convinced you really can't go wrong with either. I can't recommend John's enough and I anxiously await the next opportunity to eat there!

Date: 07/15/2016 Location: Jersey City, NJ Pizza Ordered: Margherita Slice and Grandma Slice Website: www.krispypizza.com/home.html I was taken to this amazing pizzeria by one of my co-workers, a fellow pizza enthusiast, after working on green infrastructure construction in Arlington Park, Jersey City. A little background: Krispy Pizza won the "Battle of the Boroughs" at the New York Pizza Expo back in 2005. Since then, they've opened several locations across NYC and New Jersey. Just as the name suggests, this slices were among the crispiest I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The location is along the waterfront next to a large high-rise hotel in downtown Jersey City. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but has room to sit inside to eat (though I'd recommend eating along the waterfront if the weather is nice). There is a beautiful mural that serves as wallpaper and the employees were very friendly. The pizza crust and bottom was deliciously crispy and not burned in the slightest. The sauce was very fresh and full of flavor. The cheese was the perfect level of crispy, to the point where it was turning that crisp brown you get when it's almost burnt from high heat but not quite there. The cheese and the sauce did not slide off the slice as it was bitten into and the basil leaves really added to the flavor profile. I'm very excited to try their Old Bridge location as it is much closer to Rutgers University where I work and attend school. I cannot wait to take my girlfriend to try out Krispy Pizza's amazing slices.
I was first introduced to Rustique Pizza after surveying in Jersey City for some green infrastructure practices. The restaurant is tucked into a cozy building in the middle of a small, quiet neighborhood in downtown Jersey City. The restaurant offers outdoor and indoor seating. The inside is small, but very comfortable. The dim lighting and intimate atmosphere makes it a great spot to take a date or go out with the family. Parking isn't too difficult to find and there are plenty of side streets that usually have room for parallel parking.
The slices were delicious. The sauce is fresh, as is the mozzarella cheese. Instead of the cheese covering a majority of the sauce like you might expect from your local, neighborhood pizzeria, the sauce and the cheese are perfectly intermingled. Neither the sauce nor the cheese slide off the slice, even when it's fresh out of the oven. The crust is fluffy and while the slices did seem to have a little excess cornmeal/flour on the bottom and crust, they still were delicious and very filling. Since first being introduced to this spot, I've been back a few times when I'm in the area. Rustique has become a dependable spot to get a solid slice in the Jersey city area. |
