Date: 05/11/2021 Location: Florham Park, NJ Pizza ordered: Nonna's Special Website: nonnaspizzaflorhampark.com/ I finally got the opportunity to try Nonna's - a spot that's been on my "Pizza-You-Have-To-Try" list for ages. Like most recommendations that come from the legendary Pete Genovese, this place was an absolute hit. I went with the recommended Nonna's Special and I was blown away by the incredible flavor. The sauce was sweet and tangy. The cheese was toasted perfectly with a balanced saltiness. The thin base and crust featured beautiful charring. It was an amazing pie - seriously, I wish I always had access to pizza this good.

Date: 03/07/2021 Location: Morristown, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain slice Website: www.godfatherpizzerianj.com/ I stopped in at the perfect time - the pizza was coming right out of the oven. The plain slice I had featured excellent sauce and a fluffy, bready crust. The cheese was a bit on the greasy side, but the slightly sweet sauce balanced things out. The slice also featured a crisp base with a good structure. I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the friendly staff, the fast service, and the lovely seating area inside. It looks like a great spot to sit down and have a meal with family or friends. Overall, I enjoyed the slice and would happily return.
Date: 02/20/2022 Location: Pine Brook, NJ Pizza ordered: Margherita & Jersey Garden (+some stolen Burrata) Website: woodstacknj.com/ Wood Stack Pizza Kitchen is everything I hoped it would be and more. My friends and I stopped in for a late lunch and I immediately got good vibes from this spot. I'm not sure if it was the friendly staff, the open floorplan, the stellar drink & cocktail menu, or the beautiful wood-fired ovens in the kitchen - maybe it was all the above. This restaurant has the hallmarks of a quality place to enjoy good food and good drinks.
My friends and I ordered several pies. Being vegetarian, I went with the Jersey Garden Pizza and the Margherita (but I also stole a slice or few from my friend's Burrata Pizza). The eggplant on the Jersey Garden Pizza was to die for. The soft, fluffy, airy dough was perfect and I really enjoyed the light charring on the crust. It was imparted with a warm, wood-smoke flavor from the firing process. That pie featured a great base of delicious red sauce, topped with perfectly melted mozzarella and a sprinkle of ricotta to seal the deal. The Margherita was just as good! It had the same perfect base/crust and is a standalone classic. The fresh basil was ever-so-slightly dried from the heat of the oven but still added a flavorful spice to an already perfect wood-fired Margherita. The Burrata pizza that my friend was so kind to share was also the epitome of perfection. Burrata is difficult to work with, but this pie was elegantly prepared. After slicing the cheese with a knife, delicious, creamy, flavorful Burrata cheese spilled across the pizza. The creaminess of the cheese blended well with the sauce to create an intensely flavorful slice. I can't sing enough praises about Wood Stack Pizza Kitchen. I am definitely coming back if I'm in the area. Date: 2/22/2019 Location: Madison, NJ Slices ordered: Plain, square, penne vodka Website: www.nickysfirehouse.com/ Nicky's Firehouse is so unique. They've got a really cool firehouse theme with a great atmosphere and warm, welcoming lighting. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Their pizza also rocks!
The plain slice was very thin and light with good sauce and cheese. The square is absolutely tremendous with fantastic sauce, quality cheese, and a nice crispy base and crust. The fresh basil strips bring the slice home and overall, this slice is the real winner! The penne vodka has great cheese stretch. The vodka sauce is creamy and delicious. The base of this slice is crispy, yet the slice still folds well. The crust has a nice fluffiness with the only flaw of this slice being the slightly overdone bottom. Overall, this pizzeria is outstanding and I highly recommend it. |
