Date: 8/14/2021 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain, Margherita, and Tortellini Website: https://somersetnjpizza.com/ I stopped at Somerset Pizza for a quick lunch on my way back to the office from a field visit. I noticed a few things right away: there's a very nice outdoor seating area and the inside of the restaurant was spotless and well-kept. The staff was friendly and service was VERY quick. Being particularly hungry, I ordered three slices: a plain, a Margherita, and a tortellini slice. The plain slice was really good! It featured an excellent red sauce with a garlicky, buttery cheese and a fluffy, delicious crust. The Margherita had a superb, sweet sauce with fresh mozzarella and fresh, delicious basil. The crust was perfectly crisp. The tortellini slice had an excellent structure to support the pasta topping. It was cheesy and delicious (not to mention very filling). Somerset Pizza & Restaurant certainly met my needs. I would absolutely return if I were in the area.

Date: December 30, 2023 Location: Damariscotta, ME Pizza Ordered: Johnny Fontane, OPC Margherita, and Lisa Simpson Phone Number: (207) 563-6816 Left: OPC Margherita | Right: Johnny Fontane | Bottom: Lisa Simpson Oysterhead Pizza Company is a small, wood-fired pizza shop located in downtown Damariscotta. On a side street, you'll find a dedicated parking area with a few spaces. Outside, you'll find a nice seating area for when the weather is nice. When you walk through the doors, you're greeted with a welcoming smoky, fireplace smell that serves as a reminder that you're about to eat some deliciouswood-fired pizza. Inside, the lighting is warm. The seating area is small, but it's cozy. The staff is very friendly and quick to make recommendations for drinks and pizza. They do have slices at the counter, but I definitely recommend waiting for a fresh pie.
During our visit, I ordered two small pizzas: the Johnny Fontane and the OPC Margherita pizza. My wife went with the Lisa Simpson (vegan pizza). While waiting for the pizza, I enjoyed a tasty beer from a Maine craft brewery. There are a number of local craft beers available, along with ciders, non-alcoholic beers, and sodas. The pizza looked incredible when it came to our table. The Johnny Fontane was colorful and vibrant. It had a pleasant spice from the fresh jalapenos which paired well with the sweetness of the sauce. The base of the pizza was perfectly crisp and thin. The crust was fluffy, light, and airy. I feel like I could eat a ton of this pizza without filling up because of the lightness of the dough. The Lisa Simpson was chock full of fresh ingredients with a very tasty sauce and a lovely seasoning spread throughout (but most noticeable when eating the crust). The kale was prepared perfectly: not soggy and not burned to a crisp - just right! The vegan cheese was tastefully applied. Often, adding too much vegan cheese will add a gooeyness to pizza that isn't ideal, but the folks over at Oysterhead Pizza Company do it right. The OPC Margherita has exceptional flavor. The garlic puree adds a spicy medley of flavor to an already outstanding sauce and delicious fresh mozzarella. The fresh basil is a nice touch. I seriously can't stop eating this pie, despite being full. Overall, Oysterhead Pizza Company earns high marks for delicious pizza, great service, and an excellent atmosphere. I will definitely be returning to dine outside in the summer months. Date: 6/14/2023 Location: Biddeford, ME Pizza Ordered: Plain cheese pizza Website: www.amatos.com/location/biddeford/ I stopped at Amato's with an appetite after spending the day at a training workshop for work. The store was clean and the staff were very friendly. I decided to get a personal plain cheese pizza.
The pizza featured a thin, crispy crust and a delicious sauce. The cheese was perfectly toasted to light brown perfection and had a pleasant, buttery taste. The personal pie was just what I needed before making the trip home. I would happily stop at Amato's again. When I visited PizzAroma, I ended up waiting an excessively long time for a simple plain pizza. Normally I wouldn't even comment on it, because I understand businesses can be short-staffed or slammed with delivery orders or attending to other customers. In this case, there were plenty of staff and only one other person dining in. In the future, I'll call ahead, even if I plan on dining in.
The pizza featured a thin, crisp base and light, airy, crust. I enjoyed the greasy, garlicky cheese. The tomato sauce was a bit generic and on the acidic side, but overall the pizza was pretty good. Date: 10/23/2021 Location: Franklin, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain slice Phone: (732) 253-5399 This review is for the pizza - I haven't had the chance to try their Mexican cuisine as of yet. When I visited, Maya's had a small dining area, but a very friendly staff. I was in a hurry, so I just ordered a slice of plain. In classic pizzeria fashion, it came on a paper plate (hey, it does the job!). The base was on the softer side and the structure could use some improvement. That being said, the greasy, delicious cheese matched well with the tasty sauce. The crust was thin and crisp. Overall it wasn't a bad slice!
Date: 10/21/2022 Location: Hartland, ME Pizza ordered: cheese pie Website: www.facebook.com/HometownPizzaHartland Hometown Pizza is as the name implies: a warm, welcoming, local, family pizzeria. The staff is friendly and attentive. The pizzeria is quiet, but features plenty of seating for larger parties. I ordered a classic plain cheese pie. The pizza featured a soft, fluffy dough and base with a flavorful sauce and excellent, toasted cheese (perfectly browned). The slices had great flavor and were just what I needed to warm me up on a chilly, rainy day.
Radici in Portland, Maine, is a unique pizza experience. Unlike your stock pizzeria, this establishment focuses on sourdough pizza that is made with local flour, hand mixed, and naturally leavened. For my order, I went with their staple Margherita slice. The slice boasted an excellent structure, thanks to the nice, airy gluten networks in the crust. The charring was just right, and it added a smoky depth that elevated the overall taste. The cheese melted nicely and toasted in a few areas which combined flavors well with the sweet sauce and the fresh basil. Radici's commitment to sourcing local ingredients shines through in every aspect of its sourdough pizza. The love and care that goes into the crafting of their pies is something to be admired. I would recommend Radici if you're looking for an artisanal pizza experience! Date: 6/18/2023
Location: I-95 Northbound - Lexington Service Plaza, Lexington, MA Pizza ordered: Plain slice Date: 8/7/2021 Location: Caldwell, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain slice & square slice Website: getangelonis.com/ I'm glad I made the trip out to Angeloni's Restaurant & Pizzeria in Caldwell, NJ. This area is filled with good pizza and Angeloni's fits that bill! Parking is mostly on the street and the inside of the restaurant at the time I visited was buzzing with activity. I grabbed pizza to go so I could miss the weekend crowd.
The pizza itself is perfectly thin and has an excellent, crispy base. The sauce is tasty and of very good quality. The standard pie features a thin layer of this delicious sauce topped with a toasty, greasy cheese that you can't get enough of. The square pizza has many of the same features but comes with a fluffier base/crust and more awesome sauce. I'm a fan of Angeloni's and would recommend it to anyone looking for a thin, crispy pizza! I was in town for a conference and managed to find some seating at the bar on a busy Tuesday night. The restaurant was bustling with activity and conversation. The waiter got me set up with an apple old fashioned while I perused the menu. The cocktail was smooth and tasty with a balance of tartness and sweetness. The bitters added a nice spice.
After enjoying a bit of the drink, I decided to order the Arancini for a starter and the Geno Pizza as my main dish. The Arancini was incredible. Fried, cheesy, and delicious are all perfect descriptors. The sweet, rich tomato sauce paired nicely and the shaved parmesan added a great touch of flavor. The Geno Pizza featured a bready crust that reminded me of the quality dinner rolls. The cheese was creamy and buttery and the pizza overall was oily, garlicy, and had a slight spiciness. The fresh basil shreds complimented the dish perfectly. The bartenders and servers were all very attentive, polite, and professional. I have to give props to Nelson and Beth for taking good care of me. Forno Bistro was a great experience and I'll happily be dining there next time I'm in town. |
