Micucci is an authentic Italian grocery with a wide selection of wine, olive oil, and other Italian delicacies. They also happen to serve up some of the best Sicilian pizza by the slice I've ever experienced. The Sicilian pizza is incredibly fluffy with a light, airy dough. The sauce is delicious and sweet, plus it's applied at the perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio. The oregano and spices sprinkled on top of the perfectly melted cheese complete the perfect Sicilian package. One thing is clear to me: Micucci doesn't cut any corners with their delicious squares.

 I stopped into Stanziato's on the way back to Jersey for a meet-up with friends. It was a long drive from Maine and I was famished. Thankfully, Stanziato's delivered. First, I should note that the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is great and I could see myself dining here with friends after the workday ends.
For food, I decided to stick with the classic: Margherita Pizza. The sauce was really rich and flavorful. The fresh basil paired brilliantly with the perfectly melted mozzarella. The crust was burnt to sh*t, but still managed a light, fluffy, airiness that was, overall, enjoyable. I would definitely return but would secretly hope the kitchen can temper the flames to achieve the right amount of char this time around. Dragonfire Pizza is a solid pizza joint located in a strip mall on the outskirts of downtown Ellsworth. Inside you'll see positively medieval wall decor and an expansive menu with many options. They just so happened to have fresh slices when I arrived, so I decided to try their classic cheese pizza and the "Emerald Dragon" pizza.
The classic cheese has an excellent, thin, crispy base with some sufficiently good sauce and cheese. One of the best parts is the woody, smoky crust and base resulting from the nice charring from the oven. The Emerald Dragon pizza was a nice experience! I don't usually like spinach on pizza, but Dragonfire hit it out of the park with this one. The creamy ricotta and fresh mozzarella pair beautifully and taste of garlicky goodness. The base is thin and crisp with the same great toasting on the plain slice, but the crust has a slight fluffiness that leads to a great pizza experience. I'm very happy with the pizza from Dragonfire and would definitely visit again! Date: 10/29/2021 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain & Brooklyn Slice Website: www.732kingspizza.com/  I stopped into King's Pizzeria for a quick bite and decided to go with the Brooklyn slice and a classic plain slice. The Brooklyn featured a thin, crisp base with good cheese and excellent sauce. I would have loved it if they were a little more heavy-handed when it came to the sauce for this slice. The plain slice had a fluffy, delicious crust with a thin crispy base. The toasted bottom added a subtle smoky flavor that I enjoyed. The cheese and sauce were pretty standard, but overall I enjoyed both slices.
This was the perfect slice joint I needed for a quick lunch. The service was quick and the slices were fresh! I grabbed two plain slices and I have to say that they hit the spot. They featured a thin, crispy base that provided the perfect structure for a fantastic foldable slice. In addition to the perfect crunch, the slices had excellent cheese with subtle notes of garlic. The sauce was superb and at the perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio. It's a bit small inside for seating, but the place has a nice charm to it.

When I entered, the place was busy with activity. The seating area was packed with families enjoying Sunday Pizza. I managed to get some seating at the bar. The classic, wooden bartop is a staple in all good taverns. The bartender and staff were very friendly. They recognized and conversed with regulars and were very attentive. I started with a glass of Kinchley's Red Checkered Ale while I enjoyed the wall decorations. These consisted of street signs, famous sports stars, photos, model trains, historic photos, and excellent quotes like, "the truth comes out when the spirits go in." The pizza came out super fast! Now that's good service.
The Original featured a cracker-thin crust, the epitome of a classic bar-style pizza. The sauce and cheese were fresh and delicious. The Vodka pizza had some of the best vodka sauce I've ever experienced. Both pies featured plenty of cheese that melts over the the side of the crust and chars in the oven. Each pie had a perfectly toasted base and crust with good structure. I had a truly enjoyable time eating pizza at Kinchley's Tavern. I highly recommend everyone give this place a try - just don't forget to bring cash! Date: 8/14/2021 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain, Margherita, and Tortellini Website: https://somersetnjpizza.com/  I stopped at Somerset Pizza for a quick lunch on my way back to the office from a field visit. I noticed a few things right away: there's a very nice outdoor seating area and the inside of the restaurant was spotless and well-kept. The staff was friendly and service was VERY quick. Being particularly hungry, I ordered three slices: a plain, a Margherita, and a tortellini slice. The plain slice was really good! It featured an excellent red sauce with a garlicky, buttery cheese and a fluffy, delicious crust. The Margherita had a superb, sweet sauce with fresh mozzarella and fresh, delicious basil. The crust was perfectly crisp. The tortellini slice had an excellent structure to support the pasta topping. It was cheesy and delicious (not to mention very filling). Somerset Pizza & Restaurant certainly met my needs. I would absolutely return if I were in the area.

On a side street, you'll find a dedicated parking area with a few spaces. Outside, you'll find a nice seating area for when the weather is nice. When you walk through the doors, you're greeted with a welcoming smoky, fireplace smell that serves as a reminder that you're about to eat some deliciouswood-fired pizza. Inside, the lighting is warm. The seating area is small, but it's cozy. The staff is very friendly and quick to make recommendations for drinks and pizza. They do have slices at the counter, but I definitely recommend waiting for a fresh pie. During our visit, I ordered two small pizzas: the Johnny Fontane and the OPC Margherita pizza. My wife went with the Lisa Simpson (vegan pizza). While waiting for the pizza, I enjoyed a tasty beer from a Maine craft brewery. There are a number of local craft beers available, along with ciders, non-alcoholic beers, and sodas. The pizza looked incredible when it came to our table. The Johnny Fontane was colorful and vibrant. It had a pleasant spice from the fresh jalapenos which paired well with the sweetness of the sauce. The base of the pizza was perfectly crisp and thin. The crust was fluffy, light, and airy. I feel like I could eat a ton of this pizza without filling up because of the lightness of the dough. The Lisa Simpson was chock full of fresh ingredients with a very tasty sauce and a lovely seasoning spread throughout (but most noticeable when eating the crust). The kale was prepared perfectly: not soggy and not burned to a crisp - just right! The vegan cheese was tastefully applied. Often, adding too much vegan cheese will add a gooeyness to pizza that isn't ideal, but the folks over at Oysterhead Pizza Company do it right. The OPC Margherita has exceptional flavor. The garlic puree adds a spicy medley of flavor to an already outstanding sauce and delicious fresh mozzarella. The fresh basil is a nice touch. I seriously can't stop eating this pie, despite being full. Overall, Oysterhead Pizza Company earns high marks for delicious pizza, great service, and an excellent atmosphere. I will definitely be returning to dine outside in the summer months.  Date: 6/14/2023 Location: Biddeford, ME Pizza Ordered: Plain cheese pizza Website: www.amatos.com/location/biddeford/  I stopped at Amato's with an appetite after spending the day at a training workshop for work. The store was clean and the staff were very friendly. I decided to get a personal plain cheese pizza.
The pizza featured a thin, crispy crust and a delicious sauce. The cheese was perfectly toasted to light brown perfection and had a pleasant, buttery taste. The personal pie was just what I needed before making the trip home. I would happily stop at Amato's again.  When I visited PizzAroma, I ended up waiting an excessively long time for a simple plain pizza. Normally I wouldn't even comment on it, because I understand businesses can be short-staffed or slammed with delivery orders or attending to other customers. In this case, there were plenty of staff and only one other person dining in. In the future, I'll call ahead, even if I plan on dining in.
The pizza featured a thin, crisp base and light, airy, crust. I enjoyed the greasy, garlicky cheese. The tomato sauce was a bit generic and on the acidic side, but overall the pizza was pretty good. |
